Maintaining a motorcycle

It is recommended to maintain your motorcycle in order for you not to put yourself at risk.

What to use: motorcycle leather tool bags, motorcycle oil, owner’s manual, motorcycle wheel wash, motorcycle wash and wax, spark plug gaping tools, spark plug sockets, spark plug wires, tire gauges.

To maintain a motorcycle you must have regular pre-ride checks, monthly checks and yearly maintenance.

  • Each week check the tire treads, see if there are any cuts or scrapes. Low air pressure may lead to blowouts, thus add air pressure if you have to.
  • Check the wheels. See if there are any loose or missing spokes, or dented and  cracked rims.
  • Check the wheel for noise or looseness by lifting it off the ground and spinning it.
  • Check the cables for kinks or broken strands.
  • Oil the chain and inspect the sprockets.
  • It’s important to maintain the motorcycle clean in order to see missing bolts, nuts or cotter pins.
  • Check the user manual and adjust the brakes so that the wheel locks when they are applied fully.
