Learn to install a 5th wheel hitch to a truck

A 5th wheel hitch is used when the loads are too heavy for a normal ball hitch. Basically, because the hitch is attached in the middle of the truck bed, the weight of the trailer is put over the truck bed and not just on the bumper, allowing the truck to support a bigger weight.

Into the truck bed there is installed a large flat plate.

It has even greater strength and stability because of the metal railings attached to the actual frame of the truck. The 5th wheel hitch connects to the trailer with a kingpin on another plate. Allowing the trailer to turn with the truck it also keeps the trailer tight. To keep the hitch plate and the one attached to the kingpin in good shape, use lubricate on them.

Most vehicles use the same 5th wheel installation kit. For vehicles that require carrying a lot of weight, there are a lot of installation kits available. All you need to do is line up the kit to the existing holes and bolts in the frame of the vehicle.

On the other hand if you don’t have a specifically installation kit, you need to drill the holes. But only do this at a professional service.
